Mum is the Word

Sunday is Mother’s Day – the day that we celebrate the mums and mum-figures in our lives. As a mummy to two small children, it is easy to make my day: a proper cup of tea, brought to me in bed, and no arguing. One of these is way harder to achieve than the other.

Either way. There will be an attempt at something – a card, a breakfast – which will make my kitchen messy. Cleaning that up would be nice too …

So, for the easily-pleased and food-led mums like me, here are some easy breakfast ideas that we can encourage the children to make – with limited mess!

Baked Dippy Eggs

Ingredients

1 large slice of ham

8 small spinach leaves

8 cherry tomatoes

4 eggs

1 matchbox-size piece of cheese

4 slices of bread , toasted, buttered and cut into dippers to eat with them

This is such a lovely idea from Hoosier Homemade, and nearly any fruit works with it.

Ingredients:

Glass gems, glass container/vase

Floral Foam/Styrofoam

Bamboo Skewers

Pineapple

Kiwi

Oranges

Grapes {green and red}

Strawberries

Honey Dew Melon

A simple breakfast to make, but tasty and so pretty, from B-InspiredMama.

Ingredients:

Cinnamon swirl or plain bagel

Plain of flavoured cream cheese

Strawberries, hulled and halved

Blueberries

Pancakes with Bacon and Maple Syrup

I think this must be my favourite - who does not like bacon and maple syrup pancakes? And, Sainsbury’s sells them pre-made too - no mess!

Ingredients:

8 rashers chestnut-smoked back bacon

375g ready-made plain pancakes

4 tbsp maple syrup

Ingredients:

Avocado

Lime juice

Fresh chives

Kosher salt and pepper

Artisan-style bread

Unsalted butter (Though, I would argue for the salted option!)

Eggs

Ingredients:

2 mangos - peeled, seeded, and sliced

2 bananas

2 cups vanilla yogurt

2 cups milk

Obviously, we mums do not need to be supervising the making - or do we?

Wishing all the mums, in all the capacities, a wonderful and happy Mother’s Day, this Sunday.
