June: the month of kitchen colour.

Beautiful colour-pop of pink with lilies.

June is such a vibrant month for so many reasons. Spring meets summer, the skies seem bluer, the flowers are in blossom and the foliage is greener. The outdoors world is glowing in June, and this sensory-rich month is full of summer fetes and flower festivals, as Summer Solstice excitement approaches - we feel it; it’s nature.

I love June. Usually. Though, I still – like most people in the UK – feel like I am waiting for it.

But June is colourful and colour is mood-booster. We pore over colour charts when redecorating, hoping the right shade will be our best reflection, and promote the right tone. We experiment with clothing-combos finding the colours that match the day’s agenda. Colour choices extend way beyond the visual. And, this is no different when choosing the colour scheme of your kitchen and kitchen cabinets.

When it comes to designing your kitchen, colour plays a key role in creating the effect of your space. The right choice of colours can elevate the overall aesthetic, the mood, and the impact of your kitchen. Colour can enhance style and functionality. But, more importantly, it can make a space yours and a place you want to be.

So, your kitchen - what colours are you thinking?

Classic White

White makes a wonderful bright framing effect, and highlights the brilliant blue island.

A cool white is crisp and clean, reflecting the colours of accessories.

White can be warm when paired with warm lighting, brass hardware and oak accessories.

White is a timeless and versatile colour choice for kitchens. It creates a clean and fresh ambiance, making the space appear larger and more open. White cabinets, countertops, and backsplashes can be paired with colourful features such as vibrant tiles or a bold-coloured island to add more character or to enhance a feature. White is a popular choice for all of these reasons – and, there are many ‘whites’ from which you can choose too - Farrow and Ball offer 24 different shades!

Bold and Vibrant

If you want to make a statement, consider using bold and vibrant colours in your kitchen. Shades of blue, green, or even red can add a pop of colour to the space and create an energetic atmosphere. You do not need to choose just one colour for your kitchen, either. Wall cabinets, floor cabinets, island cabinets, stone – you can choose a mixed palette of colours and shades.

This applies also beyond the fitted furniture – try colourful appliances, ornaments, furnishings, tiles and walls.  Because it is June, sunny yellows are bright and cheerful, and represent the warmth and sunshine of the summer months. For some, it might be a brave choice making yellow a permanent feature but you can include shades of yellow in your home décor, such as throws, pillows, curtains, or accent pieces, to bring a sunny and energetic vibe to your space.

Orange is the new vibe.

Neutral Elegance

Neutral palettes are warm and natural.

Neutral colours like off-white, grey, or taupe can create an elegant and sophisticated look in your kitchen. These colours provide a calming backdrop and allow you to experiment with different textures and finishes. Consider incorporating natural elements like wood or stone to add warmth and depth to the space.

Accentuated features - we love this island’s use of reclaimed wood.

Also, it is no surprise that the most popular kitchen colours are green, grey and blue – the most organic of the shades because they are earthy and grounded in nature – our colourful June is accentuated by the floral blooms but all year round we have these calm and timeless greens and blues - and greys! . Earthy tones like browns, terracottas, and greens can bring a sense of nature and tranquillity to your kitchen. These colours also work well with natural materials like wood, stone, or rattan, creating a warm, organic and inviting atmosphere.

Adding plants brings inside the outdoors.

June is the month when nature is at its peak, with lush greenery all around. Embrace the freshness of the season in your kitchen by incorporating various shades of green in your décor. Using potted plants or green accessories bring a touch of nature indoors. And, as the temperatures rise, the coolness of blue can provide a refreshing and calming effect. If you're dreaming of a beach getaway in June, consider incorporating coastal blues in your décor. Shades of turquoise, aqua, and navy can bring a coastal vibe to your space, evoking a sense of relaxation and tranquillity.

Retro Vibes

Oranges are not the only attributes.

If you're a fan of retro style, consider using bold and vibrant colours like orange, yellow, or teal in your kitchen. Retro-inspired appliances, wallpaper, or tiles can add a fun and nostalgic touch to the space. Bright Orange: Orange is a warm and energetic colour that represents the vibrant energy of summer. Use shades of orange in your decor, such as in throw blankets, rugs, or decorative accessories, to create a lively and inviting space.

Playful Pink?

June is also associated with blooming flowers. In fact, the June birth flower is a rose - I know that because my youngest is a June baby but he couldn’t care for flowers! However, beautiful pink blooms are lovely in a kitchen. We have had a rise in pink cabinetry requests because the colour is calming, pretty, soft and feminine. If pink furniture is still yet too brave, you can add pink in your décor and nothing is prettier than the pink blossoms of fresh flowers.

Remember, when choosing colours for your kitchen, it's essential to consider the overall style and theme of your home. Additionally, lighting plays a significant role in how colours appear, so make sure to test your chosen colours under different lighting conditions.

Also, you can incorporate these colours in various ways, such as through paint, accessories, textiles, or even fresh flowers. Choose colours that resonate with your personal style. The colour palette you choose for your kitchen can significantly impact its overall look and feel. Whether you prefer a classic white kitchen or want to experiment with bold and vibrant colours, there are endless possibilities. And, you know what? Our designers can play around with them all before you decide.

Happy June’ing.
